Description
Nestled in the Sierra Foothills at an elevation of 500′, Clos du Lac has proven to be an ideal location for growing several premium grape varieties. In a community of 220 acres, approximately 30 acres are under vine with Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah, Mourvèdre, and Petit Verdot. Of that acreage 16 acres are managed and sold by the community and 14 acres are private vineyards. Grapes are sold to area wineries and have been used in multiple award winning wines.
In a typical growing season Clos du Lac has approximately 24 tons of Cabernet Franc grapes for sale from vines ranging from 20 – 32 years of age. In addition, we have approximately 18 tons of Petite Sirah, planted in 2002, 16 tons of Mourvedre grapes, and 2 tons of Petit Verdot grapes.
Most of the vines are grown in a Vertical Cordon fashion with one acre of trellised vertical cordon Petite Sirah. The vines are maintained by our professional vineyard maintenance company. Grapes are sold in 1/2 ton macro bin units to commercial wineries. Selected varieties may be available for home winemakers who are interested in purchasing smaller quantities.
